Set myself up a Facebook account.
Add a few people to my account & received a few people wanting to join my friend list.
Also included 6 some web sites:
Libraries Australia
Library gifts
National archives, Libraries and museums
Shelfari Books (similar to LibraryThing)
Both sites to me look 'busy' with blogs, blurbs, friend spaces, comments and general information.
Negative thoughts:
* very open and honest and many privacy issues involved (even if you are not use to telling people about yourself)
* If you haven't set your account up correctly, could have your account changed and will feel you have no control over your account.
Positive thoughts:
* Different way to communicate to the younger generation
* Different approach for libraries to encourage feedback and provide a 'voice' for the future of libraries
* Provides an optionality to discover what partons may want or need to help with their courses / learning
* Different way to discover similar interests and become part of a social network
* Help provide links to any necessary library information i.e. library catalogue, etc.
* Help provide events happening in libraries
